“It's that orbiting Disney waterpark and super-poop that's ruining us here, you know.”
“Super-poop?”
“Mars needs farming to be livable. 'Super-poop' is a fortified manure that's brought colony crop yields up almost 150%. And that plant respiration is pumping more oxygen into the atmosphere than anyone expected! It'll be awhile before there's a hospitable atmosphere, but it'll be decades sooner than anyone planned.”
“And in the meantime, the colony smells like-”
“Yep!”
“Is it really worth it?”
“They think so.” She winked. “And, well, most folks can't afford to leave once they've arrived.”
Bio
Amy Eastment is a writer, painter, sculptor, mask-maker, tinkerer, and engineer. She bounces among all of these and more in Cambridge, Mass., and often wishes that days were several hours longer. Amy's also a very grateful graduate of the Clarion West 2005 class.
Goals
I've let my writing fall by the wayside, so I'm participating this year as motivation to get back to regular writing! My goal is to complete three stories by the end of the Write-a-thon. And my bonus goal is to write each in a different genre — screwball comedy, magical realism, and sf/noir.
My fundraising goals are two-fold; to bring in new donors and raise lots of money. For those who kindly kick some donations in Clarion West's direction on my behalf, I'll gladly share my progress and drafts of these stories. (That's bribery right there, people. You know you want read the screwball super-poop story.)
