Excerpt:
A bell chimed, and suddenly the trees dropped away, the lush scene quickly transforming into a verdant smear, a fading line stretching down, longer and finer to a single blue pinpoint. Then, with a silent pop, his home was gone. Not a mote of dust nor muscle moved in the viewing bay. Chris had never dreamed of leaving Lysanias, but still he spared no wonder for the fabulous machine around him or his rapid ascent through the heavens. As an arrow shot from a bow, he streaked towards his target.
Bio:
Bruce Williams is a professional software developer who has also always wanted to be a professional writer. He's made forays into technical writing, but his dream is speculative fiction. He lives in Portland, Ore., with wife, two sons, and an oversized coonhound who doesn't know his own strength.
Publications:
The Rails View, Pragmatic Bookshelf (in pre-publication technical review)
Writing Description:
I enjoy writing stories with mysterious/deceptive qualities that include humor. Among my dirty habits are a penchant for complex worldbuilding and conlangs (I blame my background in linguistics).
Writing Goals:
I'd like to finish three stories and prepare them for submission to publishers. I'd also like to focus on dialogue, which I consider my primary area of weakness.
Fundraising Goals:
If I can raise $100 for Clarion West from supporters, I'll match the amount dollar-for-dollar (with a tip of the hat to Karen G. Anderson for the idea).
