Walking in Yaletown, with a new prospective beau, I heard the sound of galahs, cawing at dusk, flying to safe night perches in the trees above Claire's house. It stopped up my ears for a moment. I know I haven't heard them, not like that for at least five years. The galahs' dove grey and pink melting into the sunset sky of Australia appeared to me as we walked past Mainland Street gentrified brick apartments in the dark of a Vancouver rainy winter day.
Bio
I am a television writer who seeks to dabble in prose. I'm always seeking to improve my writing and the writing of others. As a long-time SF fan, I have seen the great work of Clarion West and I applaud the organization for this new initiative. Those of us who can't attend can have some of the intense experience and improve our work!
Publications
I've been published in On Spec, Horizons SF, etc., but as I am mostly a TV writer, you have to watch television to see my work.
I've written for the following shows: "True Pulp Murder," "The Collector," "Just Cause," "Cybersix," "Billy the Cat," "Sci Squad Cadet," "Commander's Log," and "Band on the Run." I've also written a CBC radio drama "Espresso."
Writing Description
I'm a science fiction and fantasy writer by inclination. That said, I have written a legal show, murder docudramas, and kids cartoons that weren't fantasy or sf. There is often an amusing bent to my writing -- sometimes it's darkly funny as in my Collector episode "The Ufologist." I'm a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy writers ranging from Dianna Wynne Jones to Robert Sawyer. Due to my background in drama, scripts and dialogue always come easier to me than straight prose.
Goals
I would love to create some great short stories or a full SF/F novel. Prose is a new medium for me, again, because I've concentrated on scripts for so very long. I am looking to do some experimental and fun work.
As far as fundraising goes, I will post my participation on Facebook and see if my friends et al support this.
