Excerpt:
When the clocktower chimes midnight, I head for the zeppelin wreck where Velvet and I have played since we were ten.The Neverwind is a cage of bones and leather, haunted by a thousand memories--some ours, some not. We discovered a skeleton hand, under all the coals in the furnace, the bones as white as Velvet's corkscrew curls. The yardarms and cobwebby rigging became swings, the fo'cs'le a hideout, the crumbling nets a museum for scavenged treasures. When I step inside, I notice the captain's logbook is gone, leaving a dark, dustless rectangle to frame a glaring white note."Even if it blinds me, I want to see the sun. We'll meet again.Love, Velvet."
Bio:
Cory Skerry lives in Bellingham, Wash., where he works at an upscale adult boutique and dreams of moving to a remote Alaskan island. He would need a non-fishing-based income, however, since he mostly just throws rocks into the water and yells, hoping to frighten the fish out. Perhaps someone will buy one of his off-the-wall novels or comics, but if that doesn’t pan out, he’s going to use a time machine to become a highwayman in the 1700s because Johnny Lee Miller made it look hot.The blame for his participation in the Clarion West Write-a-thon goes directly to Cassie Alexander.
Publications:
"Rendered Down," Ideomancer (June 2011)"The World is Cruel, My Daughter," Fantasy Magazine (forthcoming, July 2011)
Writing Description:
My writing has been described as dark, lyrical, and humorous. I would only add that the three don't always coincide!
Writing Goals:
My goal is 4,000 words per week on my current work-in-progress, a YA fantasy novel that takes place in a system of massive underground caverns.
Fundraising Goals:
In return for your donations, you'll receive access to a Google Document* housing the portion of the novel I write during the Clarion West Write-a-thon. Don't worry, though. No one will make you read it. ;) Any week in which I fall short of my goal, you'll also receive the URL to a self-deprecating comic strip explaining my failure.*You'll need a Google account for this.
