Excerpt:
Luka sensed something was wrong just before Langemann's hand emerged holding a revolver. The sickening smile returned, even more smug now."How very trusting of you to have believed you would get your pendant back.""We had a deal, didn't we?""Yes. But I'm reneging on it."Langemann pulled on the top of the stacked folders, and like a concertina or a Chinese lantern, they expanded. Something more complex than either took shape; an origami griffin, four feet from wingtip to wingtip. Impossibly, its sides flexed as if breathing; its eyes moved malevolently.
