Excerpt

Standing at the back of the room, looking forward through the empty chairs to the podium on the left, he thinks that he can predict the entire funeral. The first speaker will have some notes, and will talk about remembering the deceased’s life more than mourning his death. The next few people will be those closest to the deceased. Next will be someone more articulate than mournful. … The last speaker will be someone almost no one knows but who relates some new fact about the deceased that adds to his memory. Everyone who thought oh god not another one will then think that’s very nice.

Bio

I’m 52 and live in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. I attended Clarion in 1985, a year that produced a number of decent writers. I stopped writing in the 90s sometime, but have kept creatively engaged with celebration arts, circus and physical theater, and photography. I want to challenge myself by being in the write-a-thon. Many of my friends have attended Clarion West, and I’ve been a fringe member of its community since moving to Seattle.

Publications

My highest-profile publication was “Chapter One, the Novel” in Semiotext(e) SF in the 80s.

Writing Description

I really don’t know how to describe my writing right now. Generally, it’s been pretty minimal. Maybe because that requires the least research. I like to read slam-bang space opera, but it doesn’t appear to be what I write.

Goals

I pledge to write 250 words/day (1750 words/week).

I have posted on LJ and Facebook, inviting people to support me in my writing. All updates will have pleas as well. If I surpass my goal, I’ll donate $1 for every hundred words above 10,500 for the workshop. I’ll donate $10 for every hundred words BELOW the goal.

Website

http://holyoutlaw.livejournal.com/ is where I blog. The public posts are photographs. I’ll also post write-a-thon updates publicly. I’m also on flickr as Holy Outlaw, but don’t participate much there. I’m also on Facebook under my so-called “real” name.
