Excerpt
Armed Forces Day, the 3rd Saturday in May, in an unseen altercation of some variety, one of our cows had her neck broken. She left behind a three to four week old bull calf. Hours later, he was in the pasture lonely, scared, and hungry. Hunger won out. Since then, he has lived in our back yard, about twenty feet from the back door. Like a victim of deep Stockholm Syndrome he is becoming one of us.
Bio
Writing took a backseat to the rest of life. Now my family and I work my family’s farm in Kitsap County, Washington. It is a diversified, certified organic farm. I never attended Clarion West because I’m one of its founders. I did study with Frank Herbert, Jack Vance, Joanna Russ, Nelson Bentley, and others. I am a director for the Endeavour Award, a member of the Kitsap County Food and Farm Policy Council, past president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of Mystery Writers of America, and have served on the boards of several business groups.
Publications
I have many publications, but none of them are available or seem relevant to Clarion West.
Writing Description
My writing is wild and unruly, and does not herd well to market.
Goals
Every week I will write and post at least one part of my ongoing farm memoir. These are short essays that, if interesting enough, could be stitched together into a book.
My fundraising goal is $500. I'd like people to donate what they can to Clarion West.
