Excerpt

My thighs numb, I moved with stiff purpose away from the bed, welcoming myself back with a moist, fawning, half-cry of exuberance, something Frankenstein’s monster might produce when he realized he could achieve erection. My skin had the fish-scale gleam of week-old bologna. It was coming loose.

(From "To Clementine, On Your 16th Birthday")

Bio

I'm a freelance copywriter living in Waterloo, Ontario with my husband, belligerent Welsh corgi, and newborn son. Yup, had a baby a just a little over a month ago. Part of the reason I'm doing the write-a-thon is to keep just a little piece of my scribbler's brain alive in the world of poopy diapers, sleep deprivation, and chubby-faced cuteness. Or, simply because I'm a masochist. Attended Clarion West in the summer of 07. Still getting over my addiction to Tully's coffee and the word "ditto."

Publications

My work has appeared in Fantasy Magazine, at Everydayfiction.com, and is forthcoming in Kaleidotrope.

"The 21st Century Isobel Down" in Fantasy Magazine

Writing Description

My writing tends to be on the acerbic side, with a hint of whimsy. I mix the mundane with the fantastical and try to use this fusion to explore human emotions in alien situations. Most of my work thus far has been short stories, but I'm currently exploring a mythology for what could be a novel.

Goals

My goal is a simple yet startling 300 words a day.

Hopefully friends and family will be so kind as to lend a few dollars to the cause. Plus, there’s always the kindness of strangers...
