PiB...of course you got in, and I'm very glad to hear about it. You are an amazing writer, and you're going to get so much out of going. Though i didn't get in, I'm very, very happy that you got it. I expect to read much, much more from you.
Gasp! A double agent!
But seriously, congrats. I'm glad one of us forum-ers made it. It must have been weird seeing us all speculate while the decisions had already been made, haha.
Good luck next year, everyone, and make sure to write six stories during the Write-a-Thon. Then when you sell them, you'll have some cash toward tuition next year!

Congrats! While I can understand some ambivalence, don't forget that YES YOU DO DESERVE THIS. I'll be writing in spirit with you during the write-a-thon.

And a third. Cool! Congrats! I'm so happy to hear you made it! And it is true, you do deserve it! Do us proud, ilorien, we're all rooting for you! Yay CW 2012 team!

Congratulations, PiB, and I look forward to meeting you this summer! I also expected more of the forum lurkers to be double-agents like me, hanging out because the radio-silence was killing them. I am sorry that I won't be getting to meet the many cool people I ran into here.
Well, we're hearing a lot from those who didn't get in...how about those who did? I'd like to give out some Congratulations now, please!
Show yourselves!
I wasn't rejected!
I was not accepted. Which, as an EXCELLENT post in some previous year thread pointed out, are two very different things.
This wasn't our year, guys, but there is always next year. We have a whole year to grow and improve as writers and, when we finally do get that phonecall, we'll be glad we got in when we were ready to gain the most from the Clarion experience and not a moment before.

Yep, CW rejection came this morning. Well, this means I can afford World Fantasy Con in November, now. Anyone else here going? Good luck to those still waiting! And to my companions in rejection, KEEP WRITING! Maybe next year we'll get in. (fingers crossed)

Hi, super lurker here. Just got rejected as well. I went back to the story I submitted, expecting to see how stupid I was for thinking it was worthy. But I still... like it. I'm not sure why it was rejected, maybe in a year I'll be a better writer and see why. Or it could be just the wrong story in front of the wrong people: success in writing is the luck of getting the right story in front of the right person, I think.
And rejection didn't hurt as bad as I thought. I'll keep submitting the story and see if my feelings are true and that it will get accepted, somewhere. I encourage everyone else to do the same. At the end of the day, it's just one rejection. Even if it's someone saying no to something you were looking forward to. It's just a rejection. I hope those who do get in have a blast. Good luck!

Noticed. Very nice tweets. And true. If GRRM applied as a student, perhaps he'd be rejected too. Who knows? All established authors get rejected 100s of times. Just gotta persevere.
Submitted by PussInBoots on March 22, 2012 - 11:03pm.
Yeah, I wasn't kidding about that, either! I mean most of what I said was jokes, but the part about instructors not getting in if they applied anonymously as students? I absolutely believe that.
Like you said, all established authors get rejected lots--and most of them still get rejections even after they're bestsellers. There are books they want to write that no one will buy; there are screenplays they write that their agents give up on or let collect dust; and there are anthologies they get invited to, but the editor chooses not to take the story they wrote for it. (So Ms. Bestseller is stuck trying to sell something she wrote just for "The Mermaids of Manhattan Time Travel Anthology" or "Welcome to the Punhouse: A Tribute to Xanth.")

I'm trying to be supportive on the Twitter tag #clarionwest without letting my friends know I applied. >_< This is hard. (And probably weird, but hey, I am who I am!)

The rejection from Shimmer should be framed--along with everything else you've ever written, Cory. :D The Comic-Con...I got very lucky with those during CNTL+C/CNTL+V-GATE.
As for the form rejection from Clarion...it's a form rejection. I'm totally fine with them; I've given out several myself. They're necessary. I just don't plan on taking it to heart--pro or con.
As for being an early rejection or not--you're right. I have no way of knowing. That's just an assumption I made, perhaps erroneously. Still, with mid-April being the target, I think I could be right. In any event, it doesn't matter. I tried, and I'm glad I did. Now I can plan my summer...and keep writing.
Off to midnight showing of Hunger Games! Have fun, all. Best wishes to those who get in, and hugs to those who don't!

I got my rejection too:

Just chiming in to agree with everyone else - there are two kinds of rejection letters they send, and you got the better kind. (I got the "we hope you have a productive summer" kind, you got the "our readers ranked your work highly" kind.) I would feel ok about it!

I'm with JCKey18. You may remember a nice rejection from Shimmer you posted awhile back that you seemed to believe was true (and it was--I should know!). I think you should give the same benefit of the doubt to what you heard from CW. :)
Lawson, I read your blog post and I would say don't throw away their comment so quickly! Of course, it could be just a form rejection, but I don't think it's an 'early' rejection, as around this time in the previous years everyone already knew. It seems like they prepare everything/finalize the lists and then just let everyone now in 1-2 waves.
All that said, you know your submission better than I, just commenting that you could have very well been highly ranked!

I like Chris' idea. I'm thinking about writing a story based on the suspense in this forum, where there are more people that want something than can have it, and they all deserve it. I like how amazing it is that everyone here has been so supportive of one another even though we're actually competing.
Actually someone named Collins already wrote that book and it's a movie now >:| haha But seriously I want to use it in a short story, because it FEELS like we're in a story, doesn't it? We should all write something using this experience--that way we can make it serve us.
Sorry to hear of your rejection, I know it stings. Apply next year, though, and keep on trying. And send stuff out in the meantime. The worst thing anyone can say is "no."
