Workshop Expenses

Hi, everyone!

I have a question regarding the scholarship form to fill out. How will I know how much the workshop expenses will come to in terms of food and whatnot? Am I supposed to just estimate it?

Comments

Yes, estimate.  If you expect to live on Top Ramen when meals aren't served, that's a lot different than if you plan to live on filet mingon.  I think this came up last year.  I'll skim the old threads for advice.

Found it!  Cut from the 2009 thread "Which would you choose".  It may help your planning.

Food at CW

FYI
- This will be covered in your packet, but just to clarify...  At CW we
have our very own cook, yep, just for us. She prepares lunch and dinner
M - TH.  There are usually more than enough leftovers from the week to
sustain people Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday, small groups of
people in the class take turns preparing a group dinner or the calss
decided to just order pizza (everyone pitches in a few bucks).

The cook keeps the kitchen stocked with enough cereal, coffee, tea,
milk, yogurt, fruit, and bread/bagels for you to provide yourself with
self-serve breakfast seven days a week and there are always stock items
such as peanut butter, jam, and cheese available for sandwiches. So
really, even though she doesn't cook for us Friday - Sunday, she makes
sure that there is food  available.  On the weekends you can choose to
scrounge for yourself from the kitchen, buy a few groceries you
particularly want, or go out to eat.

Cool. Thank you!

i just want to add -- because there will inevitably be some people who don't really have to worry about expenses (and i was one of them, so i'm just trying to share helpful advice) -- i strongly suggest you always keep at the forefront of your mind that others are on a budget, sometimes a very strict one. especially if you're younger (e.g. i was a college student), it can be easy to slip up and forget that someone may not be able to afford the cost of a movie ticket.

i think some classes have done cost-sharing kinds of activities where people participated by sliding scale apropos to what they could afford, and that strikes me as a decent idea.
