Christopher Barzak Fantastic Fiction Writer's Workshop: People in Place
To make an authentic character in fiction
means you must understand the place from which that character comes.
Setting in fiction can often be a backdrop, rather than an integral
aspect of shaping both character and plot. To aid in a writer’s ability
to build convincing and authentic stories, this workshop will focus on
place and how, in fully dimensional fiction—be it on a far-flung world
of the future, the past, or here on the earth as we know it—it should
inform both characterization as well as the kind of stories that can be
told in that setting.
