Class of 2010?
Class of 2010. It's like a PSA--don't do drugs, kids, so you can keep up and graduate with your class. When you tell your dad "I learned it from you!" make sure you feed him a good yarn about science fiction precluding the need for any mind altering substances. Uhh..okay. Are people allowed to say yet?

I tried spinning that yarn to my dad once. No dice. :)

New PSA idea: "Dads, don't force feed acid to your kids! They can build their own worlds the old fashioned way!"
Oh man. Someone needs to improve on that PSA. I'd get fired from the non-profit for trying to create those wicked gems.
Submitted by Frank_Ard on March 19, 2010 - 2:32pm.
How about this? "Fantasticism does not equal transcribed acid trip." (Unless you're William S. Burroughs. The Burroughs provision is not part of the original PSA, however.)

There's always soma...just in case...

Hmm, I'm noticing a pattern of responses here, or at least respondees.
"Clarion! It does a body good." Or something.
Submitted by Stephanie on March 19, 2010 - 7:17pm.
I love it, especially since I hear one loses tons of sleep over the six-week program. "Lean, mean, writing machines."
Submitted by Frank_Ard on March 19, 2010 - 7:47pm.
"The strong write. The weak sleep." That might be said on the first day of literary boot camp.

Hell yes.

For what it's worth, and to keep the crickets at bay, I'm in.

Hello and glad your in, Sandra!
Count me in too--Frank Ard reporting for duty.
Submitted by Stephanie on March 22, 2010 - 11:45am.
I'm in as well. Should we start a new thread?
Looking forward to meeting everyone this summer! :)

I'll be there, too. I've known since the third; it has been so hard to keep quiet.

Sweet! I added you on LJ (hope that's okay). :) Looking forward to meeting you this summer.

Hello and congrats to you all. I'm in, too! It has been hard to sit on this news. Can't wait to meet you all!
Submitted by Stephanie on March 22, 2010 - 12:26pm.
Hi, Andy! I live in the L.A. area as well. :) Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking here for the last week, but haven't trusted myself to post without letting the cat out of my bag!
So, here's my feline: I'm in!
Not that I'm complaining... but is anyone else having difficulty thinking about anything besides Clarion West?
Submitted by Frank_Ard on March 22, 2010 - 1:03pm.
I'm having lots of trouble concentrating on anything but CW too, Adam. All of my plotlines seem to involve one character or another traveling northwest...mysteriously.
Submitted by AdamBrymora on March 22, 2010 - 1:11pm.
Hmmm. My latest character left his home for a long and self-imposed exile in a foreign land... and I hadn't even noticed.
Huh.
Submitted by grewvie on March 22, 2010 - 1:24pm.
I can't concentrate AT ALL! Every few minutes I find myself daydreaming--I have to start flogging myself if I don't get back to reality soon.
Submitted by Stephanie on March 22, 2010 - 1:26pm.
Ditto. Is it crazy that I'm already making a list of things to pack? :)
Submitted by remy on March 22, 2010 - 3:38pm.
If that's crazy we're in the same ward in this asylum!
Has anyone started making to-do lists?
Submitted by AdamBrymora on March 22, 2010 - 5:33pm.
Yeah, my list has grown so long that I've started using the white sheets in here...
Right at the top is applying for a Visa to the USA, if I need one. Can't quite work that out, but remain unsurprised that supposedly informative government websites are confusing.
Submitted by kcball on March 22, 2010 - 5:42pm.
Adam:
I don't know about Australia, but here in the states, government web sites are supposed to be confusing. If we understood them, we might realize how much money we shell out for absolutely nothing.

Sad to say its much the same on this side of the pond.
Submitted by neile on March 22, 2010 - 7:38pm.
Adam, since Clarion West is not a accredited degree program (not the equivalent of starting a univeristy degree program despite all my comments that for me it was like a writing MFA packed into six weeks) all you need is a regular tourist visa.
Submitted by AdamBrymora on March 22, 2010 - 7:52pm.
Oh, brilliant! Thanks Neile!
I was just reading information on US Student Visas from both Travel.gov and from the US consulate here in Canberra, and both seem to say different things... largely because of the use of general terms like, "if you are intending to study..." without qualifying what kinds of "study" they mean.
I'm sure that the information you have provided is in there somewhere, but I never found it.
Thanks again, Neile--you've saved me from an attempt to communicate with bureaucracy! While some elements of that attempt might have been humorous, I'd more likely have ended up frustrated and no closer to an answer.
Submitted by neile on March 22, 2010 - 8:20pm.
Yes, they're talking about the kind of visa you need if you're coming here to get a degree. They're fairly complicated.
Since we're a writer's workshop with no other affiliation it's more like attending a convention. A really long convention.
Submitted by Andy R on March 22, 2010 - 5:56pm.
Grats & nice to meet you, Adam!
yeah -- it's been difficult to concentrate on all the other non-CW stuff! I've been dying to know who else got it, too. so it's good to finally start getting to know you all. :)
Submitted by AdamBrymora on March 22, 2010 - 7:32pm.
Thanks Andy--
I've just realised that in all my excitement, I haven't congratulated everyone! What a rude guy.
So: ** Congratulations everyone! **
I too have spent most of today reading everyone's blogs, etc... at least whenever I haven't been wiping toddler boogeys (my daughter has a cold).
Can't wait. Too much to do. Argh!
