Excerpt
In the bedroom closet the man kept a worn leather suitcase. Every year, when the woman did spring cleaning, she nudged the suitcase a little deeper in behind their clothes. Sometimes she let her hand brush against the ornate clasp, hoping the case might fall open. It never did.
One morning the man came into the kitchen carrying the suitcase.
She stood, stunned, as he took a small apple from the bowl on the table and put it in his jacket pocket.
"It's easier this way," he said, and went out the door.

Writing Description
My writing is still in the experimental stage. I'm working on urban fantasy stories, a traditional quest novel, a Jack the Ripper story, space opera, and a piece of short fiction that takes a dystopian view of the near future.
Goals
My writing goal for the Write-a-thon is to develop three new stories using the techniques from Mary Robinette Kowal's workshop on writing a story in 90 minutes.
My Write-a-thon fundraising goal is to raise $250 for Clarion West. If your support gets me to that goal, I'll match the $250 dollar for dollar.
