Game Writing 101

The new wisdom says good storytelling is important in games—but what, really, does a video-game writer do? Eric Nylund, John Sutherland, and Joshua Ortega, with more than 15 years' video-game writing experience between them, will lead a panel discussion on what video-game writing is and isn't, how they broke into the business, and what chops you need to do the work.

Come join our panel of experts in the field as they demystify the new, often lucrative, field of writing for video-games. You won’t find a how-to book on writing for video games because it’s a relatively new field, so take advantage of this rare opportunity to get your questions answered by the pros.

OUR PANEL:  New York Times best-selling writer and Clarion West graduate Eric Nylund is the author of Halo: Ghosts of Onyx and other novels, as well as writing for games such as Gears of War

John Sutherland has written for games including Mind Aerobics, Go, and many Microsoft simulator games such as MechAssault 2, Asheron's Call 2, Shadowrun, and the upcoming Mass Effect, as well as poetry, fiction, and screenplays.

Joshua Ortega, author of the cult novel Frequencies, has written for every major American comic book company and for games, including the upcoming Blue Dragon

Panel Moderator Melanie Henry's first video game was Pong. As an editor at Microsoft Game Studios for the last seven years, she's worked on such games as Gears of War and Counter-Strike for the original Xbox.
