Excerpt

Lawrence took Evelyn’s hand as she stepped out of the car. His palm was damp from the humidity in the air, that grey threat of rain. Evelyn’s skin felt suddenly electrified, although she couldn’t say why. She was used to Lawrence’s touch.

“What do you think?” he asked, turning away from her, toward the house. Evelyn leaned up against the car. The engine was still running; she could feel it rumbling against the small of her back. Every now and then white steam curled out of the exhaust pipe and dissipated along the white gravel driveway.

“It’s lovely," she said.

Bio

In 2008, I received an M.A. in creative writing from The University of Texas at Austin. Two years later, I attended Clarion West, where I was the recipient of the 2010 Susan C. Petrey Scholarship Fund. One year after that, I sold my first two novels to Angry Robot through their Open Door Month.

Publications

My first novel, The Assassin's Curse, will be released in October 2012 by Strange Chemistry, Angry Robot's YA imprint.

My most recent short story publication was "Clem," which appeared in Daily Science Fiction.

You can see a complete list of my short story publications on my website.

Writing Description

I like to blend genres and play around with tropes. Sometimes I subvert tropes and sometimes I don't. It keeps me on my toes.

Writing Goals

I'm going to spend the six weeks revising (or, more accurately, redrafting) my currently untitled WIP, which is a Gothic romance of sorts. I hope to have a polished, submittable draft by the end of the Write-a-thon. I'll probably post doodles, illustrations, and excerpts on my blog during the course of the six weeks, if you want to follow along with me.
