My Progress |
I’m a Brazilian writer whose debut novel, Porém Bruxa [Witch, However] an urban fantasy set in São Paulo, was released in October 2019.
I’ve been working on finishing my PhD in Linguistics and Literary Studies in English, in which I research witch stereotypes as transgressive female figures, from literary and non-literary 16th- and 17th-century sources to current literature.
At the same time, I’ve been working on a high fantasy novel based on early 16th-century Brazil, where there are mages from the different peoples who are thrown together in the same land by a plague that decimated most of humanity everywhere else. I got almost to the end of the novel before realising that it couldn’t be written from the POV of two first-person narrators, but rather from a 3rd-person one. Now I have to edit and rewrite huge chunks of if to make it work. It’s something like Pocahontas meets Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
