Beginning with Voice
Geoff Ryman
Saturday, Jan. 14 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (plan to arrive by 9:45 am)

Develop your writing voice with Geoff Ryman, an extraordinary prose stylist and teacher. Voice is the sound of your prose–but it is also what you write about, who you write for, and what you stand for. All of that comes out in the sound of your work. In this workshop, you’ll look at stories through the prism of voice. You’ll critique the first two pages of stories and novels, focusing on voice and evaluating style as support for the story’s idea. Come prepared to learn from the work, your fellow students, and Ryman’s exceptional teaching.

This workshop is for Clarion West alumni. The cost to attend is $125 if you bring in pages for critique (9 people maximum), and $85 to attend and participate with no pages. If you chose the option to submit work for critique, you’ll be asked to submit the first two pages plus a description of the rest of the story or novel ahead of the workshop.

If you have questions or are having trouble registering, please email workshop@clarionwest.org.
