Deconstructing a Story with Siobhan Carroll

Friday July 17 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM PDT

Join Professor Siobhan Carroll for a “Reading for Writers” workshop, in which we put our critical eye to work to improve our fiction. We’ll discuss the theme, character, and technique on display in a classic short story (this text will be provided at least one week before the class meets) and practice the ‘RABA’ reading process, which students can use to discover the themes in their drafts. In the second part of the class, we’ll participate in a writing exercise based on a SF classic short story.

Students must read the text in advance of the class.
