Flash Fiction Groups

Thanks for another wonderful summer! Flash Fiction Groups will return in 2027!

We adopted Kdot the Flash Fiction Metaphor Mascot from Flash Fiction Groups 2024 instructor Yvette Lisa Ndlovu. Art by Lin Lustig.

Looking for a summer challenge? Meet fellow writers, learn more about craft, draft new flash pieces, and connect with a speculative fiction community with the annual Clarion West Flash Fiction Groups!

The Flash Fiction Groups are a structured way for you to start with small group critiques and deadline-driven story generation. This is an asynchronous workshop, with weekly deadlines to keep you engaged.

You’ll be placed in a group of five to seven likeminded writers. Every week for four weeks, there will be a pre-recorded video lecture, a deadline for a new flash piece, and several flash stories from your group to critique. Prompts will be offered to ignite your creativity and of course, your submitted pieces will receive critiques as well!

Learn the positives and challenges involved with group critiquing and workshopping stories.

Want to study flash fiction but don’t need the workshop experience? (Or don’t want to wait until June 2027?) Try one of our On Demand Flash Fiction Classes:
