Writing Meetups
Clarion West is hosting Free Writing Meetups in Seattle. Come join us!
We are excited to build connections with Seattle’s local speculative writers.
Currently, we are hosting two affinity writing meetups: the BIPOC Speculative Fiction Writers and the LGBTQIA+ Speculative Fiction Writers.
Our Writing Meetups currently meet once every quarter at Common Objects in downtown Seattle. Our community hosts will guide the group through generative writing exercises and opportunities to share.
FAQ
What do I need to attend?
Just two things: first, register online (see above) and two, your preferred writing instruments. That’s it!
Do I have to attend all the sessions?
Nope! Feel free to drop in and attend as frequently or as rarely as you’d like.
Where does the Writing Group meet?
At Common Objects in downtown Seattle! It belongs to Common AREA Maintenance (CAM), a nonprofit based in Seattle supporting artists and cultural workers through shared resources, programming, and affordable space. (Register above for the address!)
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes!
Is water available?
There is water and there is also tea!
Is the location accessible?
The entrance to Common Objects is all one level. The doors are not automatic, but provide a wide entry. The space has two accessible bathrooms. There are no stairs.
What is an Affinity Group?
In this context, an affinity group is a cohort of writers who share a common identity characteristic and a common interest or goal. Some identity characteristics used to form affinity groups include (but are not limited to) gender, race or ethnicity, sexuality, and experience (ex. disability, parents, country/region of origin, age, university attended, etc.) In keeping with our organizational mission statement, we offer the option to form affinity groups to provide community support and encouragement to increase and support participation for those who may be traditionally (or currently) underrepresented in the speculative fiction field.
