Teach for Us

In addition to the Six-Week Workshop, Clarion West now offers classes and workshops year-round. These range in length and format from 60-minute webinars to multi-day workshops.

We are always looking for new instructors and diverse workshop topics. Clarion West offers a wide range of online programming on the craft and business of writing in the spring, fall, and during our summer Write-a-thon. Our classes focus on speculative fiction (including but not limited to science fiction, fantasy, and horror) and must appeal to genre fiction writers.

Clarion West especially encourages applications from Clarion West alumni, writers/teachers of color, and writers/teachers with diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.

Teaching for the Six-Week Workshop

Instructors for the Six-Week Workshop are chosen by a committee of staff, past instructors, and alumni. A survey goes out at the end of each year and the committee typically meets twice between January and March. At least one committee meeting is held virtually.

We carefully weigh factors including prior teaching experience, publication history, demonstrated values, recommendations by students and colleagues, and expressed interest in teaching, to create a diverse slate of instructors who complement each other. While there’s no application process to teach for the Six-Week Workshop, leading a short class or workshop would be an excellent way for us to get to know you better.

If you have questions, would like to let us know that you’re interested, and/or you are an alumni or past instructor and would like to make sure you get the survey and committee invitation, email workshop@clarionwest.org.
