Accessibility

Clarion West is committed to making our spaces and events more accessible to all. We are making adjustments to limit the barriers affecting people with disabilities and will continue to address needs on an ongoing basis.

Below are the services that are currently available or can be requested for all Clarion West-related programs.

  • If you need to request one of the services below or need further accommodations for an online class or workshop, please contact us directly at info@clarionwest.org or (206) 322-9083.
  • If you need to request one of the services below or need further accommodations for the Six-Week Workshop, please contact us directly at workshop@clarionwest.org.

We ask that you give us two weeks’ advance notice to hire interpreters or captioners. Requests made on shorter notice may not be guaranteed.

Physical Accessibility

Clarion West does not have a physical space of its own. However, we have made it our commitment to only partner with facilities that provide ADA accessible spaces and other accommodations. Whenever possible, we seek to partner with other nonprofit organizations to maximize these efforts, share resources, and ensure the best possible experiences for all participants. If you would like to partner with Clarion West, please contact Marnee Chua at director@clarionwest.org

Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Clarion West is pleased to provide ASL Interpreters at in-person summer reading events during the Six-Week Workshop. If you have any questions, are interested in an ASL interpreter for another program, or would like to reserve seats in front of the interpreters, please contact us at workshop@clarionwest.org. Please give us two weeks’ advance notice when possible.

Online Classes

Clarion West is using Zoom for our online classes and workshops. We always make Zoom’s auto-generated closed captions available for all of our online sessions. If the class is discussion-intensive or uses features that make the auto-generated captions impossible (for example, if a class uses breakout rooms), a live captioner can be requested. We ask that students request a live captioner two weeks before the class date.

Chat and closed caption transcripts can be sent to you after the class. We ask our instructors to provide reading materials and slides in advance, whenever possible. If you have specific needs or requests for your instructor, please send in your request two weeks before the class date.

Clarion West hosts author events and panels streaming live through YouTube and free for the public year-round. We provide a live captioner for every streaming event and are currently partnering with VITAC Internet Captioning Services (ICS). The ICS screen is available at every public event.

Further Resources

We recognize that disabilities and accessibility needs vary and encourage you to contact us if you have specific questions. Clarion West will make every attempt to meet the needs of all of our students, within the limits of the workshop structure and current facilities. We welcome recommendations.
