Students attending Clarion West incur expenses for tuition, housing and food, travel, and other living expenses. Thanks to the strength of Clarion West’s support community, a long list of alumni, friends, past instructors, and other organizations frequently provide scholarships for our students.

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship to attend Clarion West, submit a full application to the Six-Week Summer Workshop by the deadline and check “Yes” in the “Applying for scholarship aid” section. Further instructions will be given to accepted students.

Full and partial scholarships are available from private donors in memory of the following honored individuals:

In addition, the following full and partial scholarships are available to select students:

  • The Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship, which covers tuition and housing, is awarded by the Carl Brandon Society to a single student of color.
  • The Worldbuilder Scholarship, which covers tuition and housing, is awarded by George R. R. Martin to a single student who demonstrates interest and skill at fantasy worldbuilding.
  • Partial assistance from the Donald A. and Elsie B. Wollheim Memorial Scholarship Fund is awarded by the New York Science Fiction Society/The Lunarians, Inc. to students hailing from the New York metropolitan area.
